Comment to be added...maybe. And incidentally, if I don't already know you from somewhere, you're a lot more likely to be added if you tell me why you want to be.

Hi Joy, may I add you to my friends list/be added to yours? Not that my journal is terribly interesting...
Kudzkudzita on May 5th, 2005 04:45 pm (UTC)
Go for it.

Dr. Mspichkie on June 26th, 2005 09:02 am (UTC)
Hi - I'm Spichkie... crazy person who can't choose between Greek/Latin. I've added you, so it'd be great if you could add me back - I'd love to see your journal!

Kudz: classicskudzita on June 27th, 2005 05:40 am (UTC)
Done - and can I just say that it's lovely to have somebody who, y'know, actually understands the Greek/Latin obsession on my friends list? :P
Dr. Mspichkie on June 27th, 2005 07:36 pm (UTC)
I know JUST HOW YOU FEEL. The world is so intolerant. HONESTLY. Nah - just kidding - my friends are really great about it! As for my LJ friends: they've come mostly from classics, so err - they understand! So how did you get into Classics? By the way, if you don't reply by tomorrow don't be surprised if I'm not around. I'm going away on Wednesday to somewhere with no LJ access! Have a great summer if I don't speak to you tomorrow!

Kudzkudzita on June 28th, 2005 04:51 pm (UTC)
How did I get into Classics? More or less accidentally. ;) I wanted to learn German in 6th grade but my school didn't offer it until 8th grade, so my mom recommended I take Latin just to get used to the idea of an inflected language...and it sucked me in. As it does all discerning people, of course!
Dr. Mspichkie on June 28th, 2005 05:08 pm (UTC)
Did you have a good teacher? I've found that often helps too... I think that - quite apart from the amazing nature of the Classics - helped me into it too!

mickelboy on August 29th, 2005 01:57 am (UTC)
I was scouring LJ for people in NC and loved your Subversive Liberal Academic in Training Icon.

So I'm going to add you to my list :).

Kudzkudzita on August 29th, 2005 09:52 pm (UTC)
Re: Hi
Added you back, but fair warning - I just moved to Madison for grad school. So, sadly, for the next six years or so I'll be exiled from the land of grits, sweet tea, and Waffle Houses. ;)

Nice to meet you anyway!

Re: Hi
Actually what attracted me was the "subversive Liberal Academic...in training" icon as well.

And funny thing is that one of my GF's lives in Madison as well.

Curious if your interested in being added to the list of me?
The Enigmatic Hellenicaeseristalierakieron on September 16th, 2005 06:24 pm (UTC)
I strongly suspect that I know you, since you logged into the computer in the Pillinger before I did! Friend me, so that I may obtain intarweb validation!! :P
Kudz: classicskudzita on September 16th, 2005 10:48 pm (UTC)
This amuses me greatly.
nouvelle_aube on November 5th, 2005 07:42 pm (UTC)
You seem cool. Add me?

I saw your icon. Hi!
Courtneysunnys_halo on February 7th, 2006 02:33 am (UTC)
Joy, this is obviously Courtney. Add me as a friend right this fucking minute. And I am going to steal that lovely Tori photograph. Soon.
ihateubutluvuihateubutluvu on February 10th, 2006 02:12 am (UTC)
i love your icon. it caught my eye. add?
Jonathan Silbertryscer on March 26th, 2006 01:10 pm (UTC)
Tori Amos works even as a BUNCH of people.

If you don't mind, I added you.
Kudz: safe in my framekudzita on May 16th, 2006 12:46 am (UTC)
Whoops, and it seems my lack of checking this post has led to you un-adding me. Mea culpa! But I've added you back, belatedly - nice to meet you!

Surely, although I must admire your ability to keep up with a flist that size. ;)

I am watching Satellite TV channels on my Laptop for Free lying in my backyard.
Are you?

I found you by searching "nail polish" and thought that it was very random- to find an educated and seemingly interesting person that way. But there you have it. About me: well I have finished university in melbourne, australia... I speak fluent Russian due to some twist of fate that gave me parents of white russian artistocratic descent. I travel a lot. I date Frenchmen. I regularly swear off men and swear like a sailor. I write to keep from going batty. I have little faith in any system of governance yet am in the process of becoming a public servant.
add me?
toknowandlove on October 7th, 2006 08:45 pm (UTC)
hey i've just started a journal which is all about my studies in literature, life, and art. I'm a soon-to-be graduate student in lit, and your page sounded interesting to me.

my other journal: jonathanikkyu.livejournal.com
coral_rose on April 12th, 2007 04:53 pm (UTC)
So Joy, since I and our other esteemed colleagues will now be living our academic lives at UW vicariously through you and you alone, perhaps you would be so kind as to add me. :-)
Congrats on making it. You must be doing something right.

hi. firedoor is my all time favorite song.ever. good enough reason for us to hang LJ style dont you think?
Kudzkudzita on May 18th, 2007 06:36 pm (UTC)
excellent taste in music, my friend! a better reason than many I've seen.
taketenndtaketennd on July 6th, 2007 07:42 pm (UTC)
I just added you because you have peace listed as an interest and because you're a grad student. Since Take Ten is a conflict resolution/violence prevention program and an initiative of Notre Dame, you seemed like a natural person to friend. Thanks :)
Bob Blanchettgurubob on August 7th, 2007 10:31 pm (UTC)
why do I want to be added?
1. I'm Nifty

2. its been your birthday here for 50 minutes.

3. Dagnabbit you weren't in your office when I rang to wish you happy birthday.

4. Your birthday is about the ONLY thing that would bring me back from the LJ Wilderness

5. HUGS.

6. A quarter Century of Kudzie. MORE! MORE!

do you really need any more reasons?

I'm on the look-out for new friends 'cause it's feeling like my current friends are either younger than me, or far too judgemental of my posts.
I'm not sure how I came across you, just random searching, and your profile/interests intrigued me.
Kudz: chill as fuckkudzita on March 16th, 2008 01:06 am (UTC)
Why not?
lolowe on April 28th, 2008 08:08 pm (UTC)
I don't really know you from anywhere..but if you love poetry then, I thought why not be your friend?
spicyricecrackerlittle_licks on August 1st, 2008 05:40 pm (UTC)
Tis I of the terrifying manhwa and Twilight comments. You obviously think like I do in many ways. I also think we'd probably clash in many other ways, but hey, it's not fun if it don't make you itch afterwards. :)
Kudz: chill as fuckkudzita on August 1st, 2008 08:07 pm (UTC)
You're friends with jaina, so you can't be too bad. Why not? ;)
kristamqkristamq on August 4th, 2008 03:44 am (UTC)
I'm looking for online LJ friends and saw your interests. I'm an English major and I'm about to go to grad school. Will you add me?
Kudz: chill as fuckkudzita on August 8th, 2008 04:26 am (UTC)
Why not? I can't claim to be all that interesting, of course.
shifty_mackerelshifty_mackerel on December 17th, 2008 12:32 am (UTC)
I'd like to be added. Why? Well, we share a love for Chomsky, Amos, Apple, Hicks and languages (I speak Bulgarian and am studying Latin and Russian). And I LOVE your friends-only banner.
Laralara_on_toast on April 18th, 2009 06:39 pm (UTC)
Hey, I'm just another victim of grad. school. I found you through a search for people interested in poetry, but it seems we have a lot in common. Classics with a Latin focus was my second major in college. Now I'm the redheaded stepchild of my PhD program, a degree in English.

Anyway, it sounds like you bring some humor to the academic world, so I was wondering if you'd add me. Feel free to troll around my journal first, if you'd like.
Kudz: chill as fuckkudzita on April 18th, 2009 11:05 pm (UTC)
Having taken you up on the trolling-around bit and having found not only lots of academic-talk but a thoughtful Twilight critique, I'm now concerned that I will not be as entertaining as advertised, heh.

Nice to meet you! Check out the crack tag in the highly likely event that all I post about for the next two months involves "oh god why am I so far behind on this paper please kill me now". ;)

We are not familiar... Also we live in the different countries. But it was simply interesting to me to read your records. I am sorry for bad knowledge of language.

Madison, in winter...
Searching in 'communities' on literature, your great icon appeared in the first page of 442 hits, and despite over 90s days of your 'inactivity,' I squirrelled a way in to see "intellectual hedonist" among your superlative qualifications for my interest. My other insterests are in my profile.
I remember Madison, WI, durince a winter drive North from Chicago as a kid reporter for Billboard magazine. Everything in Wisconsin seemed super clean compared to Chicago; we attributed it to the Germans, maybe because we ate in a German restaurant. But the campus is where I really wanted to be. And didn't make it. Always looking for subversion, but usually just missing it.
Be well, stay warm,
